In 1997 Institute of Engineering Thermophysics, one of the largest thermophysical centres of Ukraine, celebrated its 50th
Anniversary.
For different years, the scientific staff of the Institute has been led by known scientists: Academician I.T. Shvets,
Professor G.M. Schegolev, Academician V.I. Tolubinsky, Professor G.L. Babukha,
Corresponding Member O.A. Gerashchenko. Since 1982 Academician of the National
Academy of Sciences of Ukraine A.A. Dolinsky, a famous scientist in the
field of heat and mass transfer, is at the head of Institute of Engineering
Thermophysics. The main scientific-technical research areas of the Institute
are the next:
- thermophysical studies of processes in heat power equipment using traditional and alternative sources of energy, and
development of methods for increasing its efficiency, reliability and
ecological cleanness;.
- development of heat and mass transfer theory and its
utilisation in order to create new technologies of heat and mass transfer
and resource saving.
- CHP technologies.
At the Institute there are 18 scientific departments,
Pilot Design Technological Office on intensification of technological heat
and mass exchange processes, Pilot Design Office on experimental manufacturing
of thermophysical instruments, Pilot Manufacture, Engineering Centre "Drying"
and Experimental Mechanical Plant of heat and mass exchange apparatus. Nowadays, 682 research workers are working at Institute, among them there are 1 Academician, 3 Corresponding Members of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, 35 Doctors of Sciences and 98 Candidates of Sciences.
During Institute's life, a number of scientific
schools and research areas, which play the most important part in heat energetics and energy saving heat technologies, have been formed. Founders of the most famous scientific schools are the Academicians I.T. Shvets, A.N. Shcherban, V.I.Tolubinsky, O.A. Kremnhev, A.A. Dolinsky, E.P. Dyban. Developments of Institute are widely applied in the economy. For only recent 15 years, 860 developments have been introduced in Ukraine and other countries of the Former Soviet Union. Among them there are 104 new technologies, 188 units
of new equipment and 568 new devices.
