Management and Elimination of Chernobyl Accident
Chairman's message
Taking into account great interest to bioenergy on the state level and
expression of interest by the general public we decided to hold the
special 5th International Conference on Biomass for Energy in 2009.
Conferences held every two years during 2002 - 2008 generated great
interest in Ukraine and abroad. About 200 participants from Ukraine and
abroad took part in each of them including 50 attendees from Europe and
the USA.
We believe that 2009 will be the crucial year for the implementation of
bioenergy technologies in Ukraine. The considerable increase of prices of
traditional energy carriers, first of all natural gas, in 2009 makes the
country look actively for nontraditional and renewable energy sources.
Biomass occupies the first place among renewable energy sources in
Ukraine. Its economic potential amounts to about 27 mtoe/yr that is more
than 13% of the total primary energy consumption in Ukraine.
Besides, introduction of bioenergy technologies significantly contributes
to mitigation of global greenhouse effect.
We are sure that the Fifth Conference will facilitate practical
realization of biomass-to-energy technologies in Ukraine and promote a
fruitful cooperation between Ukrainian and foreign scientists, experts and
businessmen in this field.
Conference Chairman,
Academician of NAS of Ukraine,
Anatoliy Dolinsky
Programme
The two-day Conference programme includes:
Topics
1. Biomass resources and its pretreatment: recovery, production,
pretreatment, supply and logistics for feedstock from forestry,
agriculture, animal
husbandry, municipal economy and processing industry.
2. Research and development of bioenergy technologies: combustion,
gasification, pyrolysis,
anaerobic digestion,
extraction and utilisation of landfill gas, liquid biofuels production
(biodiesel, bioethanol);
co-firing technologies for
biomass and traditional fuels.
3. Demonstration and
market implementation of biomass-to-energy technologies.
4. Strategy and policy issues: national and local legislation,
sources of financial support, stimulation of development,
reduction of CO2 emission,
socio-economic issues, national and local strategies for bioenergy
development.
5. Economic and environmental issues of
bioenergy technologies.
Purpose of the conference
To encourage the use of biomass for energy production and promote
sustainable development of bioenergy technologies in Ukraine.
Working languages
Ukrainian, Russian, English.
Simultaneous translation will be provided.
How to prepare an abstract
The Book of Abstracts will be published in two languages:
Ukrainian/Russian and English.
Would you be willing to submit an abstract, it should be single spaced
with 11 size Times New Roman font and include: applicable subject number
(1 to 5 above); full title; full name, affiliation and contact information
of all the authors, including indication of one author for all
correspondence; purpose of the work, results and conclusions.
Abstracts should be prepared in English (obligatory) and in Russian
(desirable). An abstract should not exceed 1 page of A4 format (the typing
area 160 x 257 mm).
Deadline for receipt of abstracts: 31 July
2009
The Proceedings of the Conference in English and Ukrainian/Russian and
presentation materials will be issued as a CD and sent to all participants
after the Conference.
Conference venue
The 5th International Conference on Biomass for Energy will be held at
premises belonging to the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of
Ukraine (55, Vladimirskaya str.). Located in the city centre the
Conference facility will give the participants a good opportunity to
combine constructive work with exploring the cultural and historical
treasures of Kyiv - the city with more than a 1500-year history.
